New train route connects Agartala to Mumbai via Guwahati, Sabroom electrification work by March 2024

Agartala, Oct 11 (FD) The Lokmanya Tilak-Kamakhya train, which ran between Guwahati and Mumbai, will now run from Agartala to Mumbai via Guwahati from October 15.
State Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had extended this facility following requests from the Tripura Government.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will flag off the train from Agartala railway station on October 15, state Transport secretary UK Chakma told reporters here today.
He said, a delegation of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) led by general manager Chetan Kumar Srivastav yesterday met the chief minister and invited him to flag off Mumbai-bound Lokmanya Tilak Express.
He will also inaugurate a newly set up escalator in the railway station.
“The North-East Frontier railway has decided to complete the electrification work up to Sabroom by March 2024 and set a target to take Kanchanjunga express up to Sabroom by this year”, Chakma said.
The Transport Secretary said the Chief Minister during his meeting with the NFR team also requested for early completion of the 15 km long Agartala-Akhaura rail line for free movement of passengers and good’s trains to Kolkata via Dhaka.
Agartala-Akhaura rail line will reduce the distance of Agartala to Kolkata from 1600 km to 600 km and would also connect Bangladesh railways with north eastern states. FD JK
