Dimapur/Nagaland:Nagalands film industry is set to make its mark at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival 2023, as two prominent personalities, Kivini Shohe and Andrea Kevichsa, gear up to represent the state.
Supported by the Ministry of Information Broadcasting, Government of India, through the Department of Information Public Relations, Nagalands delegation aims to showcase the regions cinematic talent on the global stage during the festival, which will take place from May 16 to 27, stated The Morung Express.
Kivini Shohe, an acclaimed filmmaker hailing from Nagaland, is recognized as a pioneer in the states film industry and holds the distinction of being a founding member of the Film Association of Nagaland (FAN).
Her invaluable contributions to the field have earned her widespread recognition. In 2022, she served as the Jury Chairperson for the 14th International Documentary Short Film Festival of Kerala and as a jury member for the 5th South Asian Film Festival in Kolkata.
Shohes remarkable work was acknowledged when she received the Governors Award for Arts in 2014. Her critically acclaimed film, Oh my Soul (2014), delves into the lives of three Naga transgender individuals. Known for her unique storytelling, Shohe often explores lesser-known narratives from remote corners and uncharted aspects of human nature.
Some of her noteworthy documentaries shed light on untold stories from eastern Nagaland, such as Under the Longfuru Sky (2018) and The Great Anghs (2001).
She has directed short films that bring Sumi folk tales to life, including Winter Nights Dream (Nisapa Nisala) in 2003 and Anishe Flower Maiden (Anishe Xamunu) in 2007. Her most recent project is the telefilm Even the Dead Speaks in 2019.
Joining Shohe is Andrea Kevichsa, a talented model and actor from Nagaland. Kevichsa made her impressive acting debut in 2022 with the film Anek, sharing the screen with renowned actor Ayushmann Khurrana.
Her exceptional performance earned her the prestigious Filmfare Award for Best Debut (Female) in 2023.
Prior to her acting career, Kevichsa collaborated with numerous fashion designers and renowned brands, establishing herself as a sought-after model.
Her captivating presence has graced the pages of leading magazines like Vogue India, Elle, Femina, and she has also adorned the covers of prestigious publications such as Filmfare, Harpers Bazaar, and Grazia.
The participation of Kivini Shohe and Andrea Kevichsa at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 symbolizes Nagalands vibrant film industry and highlights the diverse talent that emerges from the region.
