Agartala, Feb 21(FD) The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala observed Great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day 2023 with dignity and solemnity.
On the occasion of this day the national flag of Bangladesh was lowered to half-mast at 8:00 a.m, and the national anthem of the neighbouring country was chanted.
State higher education secretary, Sharadindu Chowdhury, eminent writer Shyamal Chowdhury, journalist, Swapan Bhattacharya, and Prof. Mihir Dev, the recipients of the Friendship Awards from the government of Bangladesh, Ranjit Saha, a notable member of Tripura's civil society, Arif Mohammad, the Assistant High Commissioner are among the dignitaries, who were present in the occasion.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Md. Rezaul Haque Chowdhury, the mission's first secretary.
Assistant High Commissioner Mr. Arif Mohammad, in his speech recalled all the language soldiers, including Bangabandhu, whose supreme sacrifice symbolized the struggle to preserve the honor of the mother tongue from 1947 to 1952 by the student society led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest father of the Bengali nation. The dignity of our mother tongue and nationalism has also been elevated as a result of the conflict. Bengali's status as the official language was first established following Bangladesh's independence during the Great War of Liberation.
Shri Sharadindu Chowdhury, in his speech said, “February 21 is a great day for Bengali-speaking people all over the world.
The term "Ekush" is now widely recognized, and for people all over the world, it stands for adversity and dignity. The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission was commended for putting together such a programme along with the appeal to swear an oath so that no language should leave the planet on this day”, he added.
