Agartala, Aug 9 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha called upon more people to come forward for voluntary blood donation, describing blood donation as an exceptional commitment to humanity and an important means of saving lives.
The Chief Minister made the appeal while inaugurating a voluntary blood donation camp organized by Ward No. 20 of Agartala Municipal Corporation at the Smriti Club premises in Agartala on Sunday. He congratulated the organizers and all voluntary blood donors who participated in the initiative to help patients in need of blood.
Dr. Saha said blood has no religion, caste or colour, and stressed that donated blood can play a crucial role in saving the lives of critically ill patients. He said such humanitarian initiatives strengthen the spirit of compassion, social responsibility and service in society.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the role of municipal wards in undertaking social welfare activities alongside providing civic services to residents. He encouraged similar initiatives to address the state's blood requirements and promote greater public participation in voluntary blood donation.
The programme was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder, Central Zone Chairperson Ratna Datta and other prominent personalities.
Alongside the blood donation camp, mosquito nets were distributed among sanitation workers in the area as part of efforts to support their health and wellbeing.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Saha also highlighted various steps being taken to improve drainage facilities in Agartala city. He said several pumps have already been installed to remove accumulated rainwater, while additional pumps will be installed. The administration is also exploring the use of technology to make water drainage operations faster and more effective.
Following the blood donation programme, the Chief Minister launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. He also unveiled the theme for this year’s Durga Puja organized by Smriti Club.
The event highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation and community participation in strengthening humanitarian services across Tripura. FD SB
