More feathers in the cap of AGMC, it is to get two more super specialty wings

Agartala, Oct 20 (FD) Tripura’s AGMC Medical college and GB Pant hospital in reality going to be a super specialty hospital with the setting up of two more super specialty departments.
Two departments like of gastro enterology and gastro surgery and combined wings of maternity and child health care units would be set up with the funds available from the central government and the allotted amount would Rs 202 crores.
Sources in the medical college said the departments are being set up at the initiative of the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who is also the health minister of the state and Prime Minister has kindly sanctioned the money.
When the state government has already received the funds, foundation stones for these two super specialty departments would be laid soon.
The Gastroenterology department will have 300 beds, when the maternity wing will have 260 beds after expansion; sources said adding both the departments would all kinds of sophisticated gadgets and experienced doctors.
The medical hospital has earned laurel for surgeries like open heart surgeries, setting up of pacemakers and kidney transplantation.
When the kidney transplantation was done with the assistance of experts from a Manipur based hospital – Srija hospital, but the heart surgeries were done by the surgeons of the AGMC Medical College.
“With an aim of the Chief Minister to convert the hospital into a super specialty hospital, he is also trying to cater all kinds of treatments under one roof”, a highly placed source said in a condition of anonymity. FD JK
