Kailashahar, Jun 26 (FD) A horrifying incident unfolded at Kanika Memorial Primary Health Centre in Singerbil when a mob of over 100 individuals attacked Doctor Satyajit Dutta, citing inadequate treatment facilities. The assailants wreaked havoc within the hospital premises, causing extensive destruction and even going as far as vandalising an ambulance.
According to local sources, the events stretched following a road traffic accident, which tragically claimed the lives of two individuals and left three others injured. The injured patients were urgently brought to the KM Primary Health Centre for medical attention.
Due to the severity of their conditions, the doctor on duty made the decision to refer all the injured to the district hospital in Kailashahar. However, at that crucial moment, no ambulance was available at the Primary Health centre, leading to frustration among the patients' relatives.
The situation escalated when a group of the patients' family members, unable to secure transportation for the injured, resorted to ransacking the hospital premises out of desperation. The violence took a distressing turn when Doctor Satyajit Dutta became the target of the mob's aggression. He suffered injuries, including a broken nose, as the mob prevented his transfer to the district hospital for adequate treatment.
The situation, however, was brought under control by the timely intervention of the District Magistrate, who swiftly dispatched a significant number of policemen to the scene. Their presence helped restore order and protect the medical staff.
The incident sheds light on the pressing need for improved healthcare infrastructure and facilities in the area. Authorities are urged to investigate the allegations of inadequate treatment resources and take swift action to address any shortcomings. The safety of medical personnel must also be prioritized, ensuring that they can perform their duties without fear of violence or retribution. FD SB
