Mizoram govt signs MoU with Toyota Kirloskar Motor to improve educational opportunities for visually impaired persons

The Mizoram government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Toyota Kirloskar Motor to improve educational opportunities for visually impaired persons in the state by providing assistive technologies and learning resources.

The agreement was signed at the SAD Conference Hall, MINECO, in the presence of the Social Welfare, Women and Child Development Minister Lalrinpuii. Commissioner and Secretary of the Social Welfare, Women and Child Development Department Lalzarmawii signed the MoU on behalf of the state government, while Ramesh Rao, Vice President (External Affairs & CSR), signed on behalf of Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

Speaking on the occasion, Lalrinpuii welcomed the partnership, describing it as an important step towards promoting inclusive education and greater independence for persons with visual impairment. She said the collaboration stemmed from discussions she had with Toyota officials during the CSR & Sustainability Conclave 2025, organised by the Bhubaneswar City Knowledge Innovation Cluster (BCKIC).

The minister said visually impaired people in Mizoram continue to face significant challenges not only in education but also in securing livelihoods and stressed that addressing these barriers is a shared responsibility. She expressed confidence that the partnership would enable more people with visual impairment to access quality education, become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to society.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Country Head and Executive Vice President (Corporate Affairs) Vikram Gulati said improving mobility and accessibility is key to unlocking human potential. He expressed hope that the partnership with the Mizoram government would bring meaningful changes to the daily lives of visually impaired persons by making effective use of modern assistive technologies.

Senior officials of the Social Welfare, Women and Child Development Department and representatives of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, including Vikram Gulati, Ramesh Rao, Sachin Sharma and Zote Toyota Dealer Principal Zorammawia, attended the programme.
