Miraculous escape: bus skids into pond; passengers and driver rescued in timely operation

Agartala, May 15 (FD) Eleven passengers and the driver of a Sherwali company bus with registration number NL 01 NC 4269 had a providential escape after the vehicle skidded and fell into a shallow pond in the Longtarai ranges near Karamcherra market under Manu police station in the early hours of today. The bus, which was travelling from Guwahati to Agartala, had its tyres skid while crossing the area, causing it to fall into the roadside pond.
Local residents who witnessed the accident immediately alerted the police and Fire Brigade personnel, who arrived in time to rescue all the passengers and the driver, all of whom had sustained injuries of varying degrees. They were taken to Birashi Mile Primary Health Centre, where they received first aid treatment and were later released.
According to police sources, the accident could have turned fatal had the pond been deeper. The bus was recovered by the police and taken to Manu police station. A case of accident has been registered by the police.
