Minor Girl Rescued, Abductor Held in Tripura-Assam Joint Operation

Agartala, Apr 20 (FD) In a major breakthrough using mobile tracking and technical surveillance, Tripura Police rescued a minor girl and arrested her alleged abductor from neighbouring Assam, officials said on Monday.
According to police sources, the Class IX student from Champli village under Churaibari police station had been kidnapped a few days ago. Her father lodged a complaint following which an investigation was launched. The identity of the minor has been withheld for legal reasons.
The accused, identified as Ashu Debnath (26), a resident of Gambharia village under Ratabari police station in Sribhoomi district (formerly Karimganj) of Assam, was tracked with the assistance of the Tripura Police cyber cell.
A team from Churaibari police station, in coordination with Ratabari police, conducted a raid at the आरोपी’s residence and successfully rescued the girl. The accused was arrested and brought to Tripura along with the victim.
Police said a case has been registered against Debnath under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to abduction, rape, and provisions of the POCSO Act. He was produced before a court on Monday.
The rescued girl, reported to be in a traumatised condition, has been admitted to Dharmanagar hospital for medical examination. Her statement will be recorded as part of the ongoing investigation, police added. FD JK
