Minister Confirms Action On Empowering ADCs Through 125th Amendment

Agartala, May 1 (FD) The Government of India has taken initiative for 125th amendment of the constitution for empowering the Autonomous District Councils (ADC) in Sixth Schedule areas of the country, according to official source.

This information was divulged to the Lok Sabha MP from East Tripura Constituency Kiriti Devi Debbarman by the Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai.

Rai in a letter to the MP said further actions are on the way for 125th amendment of the constitution for empowering the ADCs in the country.

The reply came in response to her question raised in the parliament during a discussion on Dec 16, 2024.

“In this regard, it is informed that discussions have been held with the concerned states on the recommendations contained in the 223rd Report of the Department Related Parliamentary Standing Committee (DRPSC) of the Ministry of the Home Affairs to arrive at a final decision on the ‘Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-fifth Amendment) Bill, 2019, and further action is underway to finalise the Bill”, the Minister of State wrote.
