Mentally challenged woman raped in Kailasahar; Police launch probe

Agartala, Sep 18 (FD) A shocking incident of sexual assault has come to light in Kailasahar subdivision of Unakoti district, where a mentally challenged woman was allegedly raped by an unidentified youth.

According to police sources, the matter came to notice when Hasib Ali, a resident of Irani area, was at a tea stall near the court compound on September 16 in connection with a pending case. The stall owner, Gulzar Hossain, showed him a disturbing video clip that appeared to capture the sexual assault of a sleeping woman inside a room on the first floor of the Taj Hotel on the nights of September 14 and 15.

Shocked by the footage, Ali immediately informed the Kailasahar Women’s Police Station. A team rushed to the spot and collected CCTV footage from the hotel. The victim was quickly identified as a mentally challenged woman, but the accused’s face is not clearly visible in the circulated video, making identification difficult.

The circulation of the obscene video has triggered outrage among locals, who demanded swift action. Police have confirmed that efforts are underway to identify the perpetrator with the help of technical experts.

Authorities assured that strict legal action will be taken against the culprit once apprehended. FD JK
