Guwahati/IBNS:In by-elections for the Sohiong assembly constituency in Meghalayas East Khasi Hills District Saturday, a significant number of voters turned out to participate in the democratic process.
The polls were conducted under the strict supervision of the Chief Electoral Officer, K R Kharkongor, reported Guwahati Plus.
Both young and old voters were spotted eagerly participating in the electoral process, donning their early voter and 18+ voter medals.
Women voters, in particular, outnumbered their male counterparts, displaying their keenness to exercise their right to vote.

In addition to the high voter turnout, the cast a vote, plant a tree initiative was implemented in model polling stations, encouraging citizens to be environmentally conscious.
It is noteworthy that Sohiong is one of the 55 seats reserved for the Scheduled Tribes (ST) out of the total 60 seats in the Meghalaya legislative assembly.
