Agartala, Oct 14 (FD) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma made a significant appearance at the Mega Rally organized by the Tiprasa Indigenous Peoples Regional Alliance (TIPRA) in Khumulwng.
During his address at the event, he passionately asserted his commitment to safeguarding the culture, rituals, and land of indigenous communities in the Northeast region.
In a resolute tone, Sangma stated, "If anyone attempts to seize control of the Northeast region and tries to alter the culture or rituals of the indigenous communities, we will not remain silent." He emphasised the shared goals of indigenous leaders in the region, all working towards preserving their sacred land and securing the future of their youth and women.
Sangma stressed that the indigenous communities of the Northeast aim to coexist with everyone and seek overall development within India.
However, he made it clear that they would not tolerate any threat to their culture or land. "We are patriots and will work for the country, but if anything wrong happens to our indigenous community, we will not remain silent."
Furthermore, Sangma called for unity among all indigenous communities in the region and assured that their concerns would be raised in parliament.
This historic gathering and Sangma's presence have sparked discussions about potential political alignments in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. FD SB
