Kanchanbari, Sept 26 (FD) A mega blood donation and health camp was organised at Kanchanbari School premises under the Fatikroy Assembly constituency, bringing together local residents, ex-servicemen and social organisations for a community welfare initiative.
The programme was jointly organised by the Indian Ex-Services League, Kailashahar, and the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Tripura, with support from the Kanchanbari India Club. State Minister Sudhangshu Das attended the inaugural programme as the chief guest. Unakoti Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Amalendu Das and Indian Ex-Services League general secretary Shankar Sinha were among those present.
The programme was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of a lamp by the minister and other dignitaries. A total of 43 people donated blood, while around 145 local residents received medical consultations at the health camp.
The 28th Battalion of Assam Rifles, Radhanagar, also supported the initiative by distributing medicines free of cost among beneficiaries.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Sudhangshu Das stressed the importance of voluntary blood donation, describing it as a humanitarian responsibility that can help save lives during accidents, surgeries, childbirth and serious illnesses.
He urged healthy and eligible people, particularly young people, to participate regularly in voluntary blood donation and overcome hesitation about donating blood. He said such initiatives promote cooperation, empathy and social solidarity by bringing people together beyond differences of religion, caste, race or political affiliation.
Das also emphasised the importance of regular health check-ups and awareness, urging people not to wait until they develop serious illnesses before seeking medical attention. He said health camps are particularly useful in rural and remote areas as they bring medical consultations and basic healthcare services closer to local communities.
The minister appreciated the free distribution of medicines and thanked the organisers, ex-servicemen, administration, voluntary organisations and the local club for their collective efforts.
He also called for the continuation of such welfare initiatives, saying community-based programmes can strengthen social responsibility and public participation in humanitarian activities. FD JK
