Agartala, July 8 (FD) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across Tripura over the next three days and issued an Orange Warning for four districts, cautioning residents to remain vigilant as multiple weather systems are expected to trigger widespread rainfall across the state.
According to the IMD's Agartala Meteorological Centre, West Tripura, Khowai, Dhalai and Gomati districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on July 8. The remaining four districts have been placed under a Yellow Warning, with heavy rainfall also expected.
A Yellow Warning has been issued for all eight districts on July 9, while heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in West Tripura, Khowai, Sepahijala, Gomati and South Tripura districts on July 10.
The IMD attributed the weather conditions to a seasonal trough extending from southwest Rajasthan to northeast Bangladesh through a well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh, along with an upper-air cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. These systems are expected to enhance moisture inflow over the region, resulting in widespread rainfall across Tripura.
The state has already recorded substantial rainfall over the past 24 hours. Between 8:30 am on July 7 and 8:30 am on July 8, Chawmanu in Dhalai district received the highest rainfall at 139.2 mm, followed by Lembucherra in West Tripura (105.5 mm), Kumarghat in Unakoti district (92 mm) and Kadamtala in North Tripura (58 mm).
The IMD has advised people, especially those living in low-lying, flood-prone and landslide-vulnerable areas, to remain alert as the heavy rainfall could trigger waterlogging, localised flooding, reduced visibility and disruption of normal life over the coming days. FD JK
