MBB airport is likely to get the tag of international check post (ICP)

Agartala, Aug 31 (FD) MBB airport of Agartala is likely to get the tag of international check post (ICP) or otherwise as an international airport, officials said.

The present Loksabha MP and formerly the Rajyasabha MP, Biplab Kumar Deb was assured by the union minister of state for civil aviation Muralidhar Mohor that his proposal during his tenure as the Rajyasabha MP is being considered into.

A letter dispatched by the civil aviation ministry informed that , the revenue wing under the union finance ministry has already notified the Agartala’s MBB airport as a customs notified airport on January 4 last year. 

He further informed Mr Deb that the status of an international airport depends on various factors including its traffic handling capacity, demands of airlines for operating international flights and bilateral air service agreements. 

It also involves ground lighting facilities, instrument landing system, runway length, and immigration and health services among other criterion. 

The letter said that taking all aspects into consideration the central government is now examining to provide the status of international airport. FD JK
