Agartala, April 30 (FD) In response to growing public grievances, a meeting was convened on Wednesday by Mayor Deepak Majumder at the Border Gol Chakkar area to address concerns linked to the ongoing road widening work on the Western Bypass (NH-08). The project, managed by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation, is aimed at connecting Lembuchhara to Sabroom via the Khowai road.
However, the construction—especially between Border Gol Chakkar and Jaipur Bridge—has led to serious challenges for local residents. Many essential utility lines, including gas, electricity, and water, have reportedly been damaged during the excavation process. In particular, the cutting of gas pipelines has caused significant disruptions. Additionally, the absence of a proper drainage system has led to waterlogging, further exacerbating residents’ discomfort.
The meeting saw the participation of key officials including West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Corporators Tushar Kanti Bhattacharya, Manoj Kanti Deb Roy, and Nitu Guha Dey, as well as Amitabh Bhattacharya, Mandal President of the Ramnagar Assembly constituency.
Mayor Majumder acknowledged the concerns raised and assured citizens that necessary corrective measures would be undertaken. While clarifying that the crucial road construction cannot be paused, he emphasized that efforts will be made to minimize the inconvenience caused to the public. He also informed that a high-level meeting is scheduled for tomorrow to formulate practical and immediate solutions to the problems. FD JK
