Matia Chowdhury was laid to rest in her husband's grave

Former minister Matia Chowdhury, member of Awami League presidium and former minister of Awami League, has passed away in eternal sleep.
After the second Janaza at Gulshan Azad Mosque in after Zohar prayer on Thursday (October 17), her body was taken to the Buddhijibi Kabarstan.
The body of Matia Chowdhury was taken from her residence in Ramna Apartment Complex this morning. The first Janaza was held there. Awami League banners were paid tribute with flowers at the funeral. After that, tributes were paid by the Daily Sangbad family.
Matia Chowdhury's body was taken to Azad Mosque in Gulshan before 12:30 noon. Since most of the Awami League leaders were in hiding after August 5, no leader of the party was seen at the funeral. However, some leaders of the party's affiliates were seen at Azad Masjid. Besides Awami League League workers, Communist Party workers can be seen at the funeral.
Former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University AAMS Arefin Siddique, former president of Chhatra League Mainuddin Hasan Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul were present at the funeral.
She breathed her last while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital yesterday after 12 noon on Wednesday. She was 82 years old. Matia Chowdhury was under treatment in the hospital for a long time. Sometimes she was brought home. But due to physical complications, she was again admitted to Evercare Hospital.
Matia Chowdhury was born on June 30, 1942 in Pirojpur. She was the Students Union president. After student politics she joined NAP. She was known as a firebrand in the field of politics. Joined Awami League in 1979. She held various responsibilities including the agriculture secretary of the party. Lastly she was a member of the AL presidium.
