Manipur implements National Food Security Act to ensure fair distribution of foodgrains across state

In Manipur, the Department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has said it is implementing the National Food Security Act,  to ensure transparent, efficient and accountable distribution of foodgrains across the State. Addressing a press conference in Imphal today, the Department’s Director said all 2532 Fair Price Shops have been equipped with electronic Point of Sale, or ePOS, devices for biometric authentication and real-time monitoring of foodgrain distribution. 

The Director said, a four-metric-tonne-per-hour rice mill under the SASCI Project is nearing completion. The project is expected to strengthen decentralised paddy procurement, provide better returns to local farmers and reduce dependence on rice sourced from outside the State. 

The Director also said, the State Level Price Monitoring Committee is regularly monitoring the prices of eighteen essential commodities to maintain price stability and protect consumer interests. He added that the Department remains committed to strengthening food security, improving consumer protection and delivering transparent and efficient public services through greater use of technology.
