Agartala, Sept 4 (FD): The leader of the opposition and CPI-M politburo member, Manik Sarkar has dubbed ruling BJP and the ruling party in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous district Council (TTAADC) TIPRA Motha party as ‘Nikamma’ or good-for-nothing as they failed to address the problems of people.
He also appealed to the people to stand out in favor of saving democratic rights, secularism, Constitutional rights and in protest of inflation in daily necessities and said there has been no change of policies in the BJP-IPFT run government even after new Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha replaced his predecessor.
Addressing a party program at Bagma in Gomati district, about 40 km from here yesterday he said, "Was there any change in policies on key sectors like education, healthcare, drinking water, connectivity, economy, power, irrigation, agriculture or on the unemployment front? Nothing was done. Situation is going from bad to worse".
Sarkar, who was the state’s longest serving chief minister of the state, said BJP changed Biplab Kumar Deb as CM to save its face in front of monumental failure in delivering public welfare.
A large section of people who didn't vote for the Communists in ADC elections held last year, are now suffering under Motha's rule, he said.
"They didn't vote for us since we weren't in power in the state government. BJP, IPFT and now this new party - TIPRA Motha, the latter of which js asking all tribals to unite... This new party is having good relations with BJP...... Both are nikamma", he said.
Explaining his comments, Sarkar said people vote for Motha, since they witnessed BJP-led government's alleged non-cooperation with the Left Front-run tribal council administration and decided to choose an alternative for better governance.
However, the communist leader said in the last one year when Motha is in power in the ADC, the tribal council areas are having no developmental work, funds aren't provided to the tribal council, despite which Motha hasn't protested or held any movement.
"The BJP-IPFT government is nikamma, the TIPRA Motha-run ADC executive (administration) is nikamma as well. There is no difference between the two", Sarkar said.
Incidentally, his comments come a day after senior TIPRA Motha leader and ADC Deputy Chief Executive Member (CEM) Animesh Debbarma voiced concern over BJP's alleged silencing of opposition voices across TIPRA Motha, Congress and the CPIM parties.
However, a senior BJP leader, in a condition of anonymity said, Sarkar was the ‘most nikamma’ Chief minister of the state and people rejected him and his party as he was nikamma. FD JK
