Agartala, Oct 9 (FD) Former Chief Minister and CPI(M) Politburo member, Manik Sarkar, addressed the 16th state conference of the All India Democratic Lawyers Association (AIDLA) in Agartala's Town Hall, emphasizing the need to protect and strengthen democracy in Tripura.
Sarkar stated that the INDIA alliance was formed with the aim of defending democracy in India by challenging the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He asserted that the BJP fears a united opposition and is losing sleep over the possibility of losing power.
Sarkar expressed concerns over the BJP's ideological alignment with the RSS, which he deemed dangerous for India's diverse culture. He also lamented the perceived lack of democracy in Tripura, citing recent by-election results in Boxanagar and Dhanpur.
He urged lawyers to stand by the people and work towards liberating Tripura from BJP rule, which, in his view, threatens the state's future.
Sarkar's speech highlighted the alliance's commitment to safeguarding democratic values in the country. FD SB
