Maharashtra Partners with Tripura Bamboo Mission to Boost Bamboo Industry

Agartala, Feb 18 (FD) Maharashtra is set to collaborate with the Tripura Bamboo Mission to enhance its bamboo industry, focusing on sustainable practices and alternative energy solutions. Smt. Pankaja Gopinath Munde, Maharashtra's Minister for Environment & Climate Change, Animal Husbandry, visited Tripura to explore opportunities for knowledge sharing and technological advancements in bamboo cultivation.
During her visit, Minister Munde emphasized the need for Maharashtra to adopt Tripura’s expertise in bamboo plantation, soil conservation, and water management. To achieve this, a team of scientists and officials from Maharashtra will soon visit Tripura to study the impact of bamboo on groundwater levels, erosion control, and the suitability of different bamboo species for Maharashtra’s climate.
Expressing appreciation for Tripura's achievements, Minister Munde highlighted bamboo’s potential as an alternative energy source to reduce Maharashtra’s coal dependency. The Maharashtra Government is also keen on acquiring bulk bamboo seedlings for large-scale plantations.
As part of the visit, Minister Munde toured the Bamboo & Cane Development Institute (BCDI), bamboo nurseries, and plantation sites. She also interacted with bamboo jewellery artisans, acknowledging their craftsmanship and skills.
This initiative aims to foster knowledge exchange between the two states, promoting eco-friendly industries and sustainable environmental solutions. The Tripura Bamboo Mission Director shared this information through a press release. FD SB
