Agartala, May 26 (FD) Leader of Opposition and CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury on Sunday, appreciated Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and cabinet minister Sushanta Chowdhury for their prompt response and support to a grieving family whose two children tragically drowned in a water-filled construction pit.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Chaudhury commended Saha for personally visiting the family of Prasenjit Debnath (11) and Priyanka Debnath (7), who died on May 17 in Chanmari, Agartala. He lauded the government's gesture of extending both condolences and financial aid, stating it would provide some strength to the bereaved family during their period of grief.
However, Chaudhury also urged the Chief Minister to adopt a similar compassionate approach in other similar cases that have occurred recently. Referring to a tragic incident on June 28, 2024, in Mohanpur, where two young girls drowned, he highlighted that the affected families have not yet received any government aid.
He also mentioned a deeply disturbing case from May 20, 2025, in South Tripura, where a 9-year-old girl from Nalsing Sardar Para in Sabroom subdivision went missing and was later found dead in a nearby forest. Terming the incident “brutal,” Chaudhury demanded an independent investigation to bring the culprits to justice.
He urged the government to conduct thorough inquiries into all three incidents, ensure justice for the victims, and provide financial, legal, and emotional support to their families.
“Though delayed in the Mohanpur case, I hope these requests will receive immediate attention from your government,” Chaudhury concluded in his letter to the Chief Minister. FD JK
