Agartala, Dec 03 (FD) Local people of Hadukalak Para under Ambassa Sub-division in Dhalai district on Saturday blocked the Assam-Agartala National Highway demanding compensation for lands which were taken for the widening of the road two years ago.
The locals, including traders who were allegedly evicted with an assurance from administration of compensation for lands used in widening of roads, but compensation was not paid even after two years.
The agitating people said that a total of 25 families were evicted and they put up a road blockade on Saturday on the National Highway No-8 as they did not receive compensation money from administration.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the state unit of opposition CPIM, Jiten Choudhury, who was on his way to Kanchanpur to attend an organizational programme was approached by the agitators to listen to their pleas.
When SDM of Ambassa and other officials rushed to spot Chowdhury asked the officials to arrange their compensation.
SDM Sanjit Debbarma later managed to pacify the agitators assuring them to arrange for compensation immediately.
The agitators however lifted the blockade after the SDM assured them to provide compensation soon. FD PD
