Left sponsored dawn-to dusk bandh passes off peacefully, fails to evoke much response

Agartala, July 14 (FD) Dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the opposition left front today in protest against the murder of party candidate for the upcoming Panchayat elections in Tripura did not make much of an impact.
Vehicular movement was normal, long distance buses also plied as usual, shops and markets were open. Since it is Sunday there was no question of opening the government and private offices, schools and people went about their normal life. There was no picketing by the CPI (M) cadres and workers.
There was no report of any untoward incident in the state and the bandh passed off peacefully, police said.
The bandh was called by the left front to protest the murder of CPI (M) Zilla Parishad candidate Badal Shill in South Tripura district yesterday.
Police said, a group of unknown miscreants attacked Shil and other activists of CPI-M when they were on their way to file nominations at Rajnagar block in South Tripura district yesterday. FD JK
