Agartala, Feb 22 (FD) As counting begins on March 2, the CPI (M) and other left-front parties have demanded strong security in every counting facility and simultaneous tallying of ballots from all 60 assembly constituencies.
State Secretary of the CPI (M), Jiten Chowdhury and Convener of the left front Narayan Kar on Tuesday stated that the front's clear stance on the matter, stating that on February 16, residents of the state turned out in massive and previously unheard-of numbers to exercise their sacred right to vote, defying all terror, threats, and intimidation in order to elect the government of their choice.
“The election commission and all the political parties in the fray must honor this collective initiative of the people and make the process of counting of ballots foolproof and smooth” said Narayan Kar and Jiten Chowdhury.
“The party which claimed that they will win all sixty seats or at least fifty five out of sixty cannot show even five seats which are confirmed for them ; we are here before you to speak on certain post-poll incidents which are shameful and a slur on democracy” said Jiten .
He also urged people to exercise restraint and avoid becoming enraged, and he warned against false information and government-backed exit polls. He added that hundreds of voters had waited in line to activate EVMs in several areas of the state for hours on end, from early in the morning until late at night, yet the so-called exit poll telecast did not account for them.
In numerous seats, he claimed, there were nightly bomb explosions and fear intended to keep voters from showing up in front of the polls, but these evil plans were unsuccessful, and people properly cast their ballots.“This shows clearly the nervousness of the ruling party and we feel convinced that the left front Congress combine is heading for a massive win in the election ; the only thing the election commission must ensure is smooth and trouble free counting of ballots simultaneously in all sixty assembly constituencies”, Chowdhury said.
