Landslide in Meghalaya: Tripura-bound lorries stuck since Monday
By Firstdespatch Desk Nov 19, 2022
Agartala, Nov 19 (FD) Tripura-bound lorries have been stuck on the national highway in Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi district since last Monday due to massive landslides.
Even after the passage of five days, no big lorry carrying goods weighing more than 30 metric tons is plying through the old Dwar Ksuid bridge as the district administration has restricted their movement over the bridge as it has been damaged by the landslide.
However, the road construction department has constructed a temporary road in the area through which only light and passenger vehicles can ply.
On the other hand the Road Construction Department has started constructing a new RCC bridge beside the old Dwar Ksuid bridge in the area.
Tripura's Urban Development and Food Consumer Affairs Minister Manoj Kanti Dev, however, said there is no cause for concern as the state has adequate stock of food grains and other essential commodities.
Apart from this, there have been secretarial level talks between Tripura and Meghalaya, Deb said adding, there is a possibility that vehicular movement will be normalized in the next two to three days. FD PD JK
