Agartala, Jun 3 (FD) With an aim to strengthen the cricket arena, Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) has appointed Lance Klusener, the former South African all-rounder, as a consultant of the state's cricket team.
He will join as the head of cricket operations ahead of the upcoming Indian domestic season.
Lance Klusener, who previously worked as the batting coach of South Africa and Zimbabwe and served as the head coach of Afghanistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup, will bring a wealth of experience to the state team. He played 49 Tests and 171 ODIs for South Africa and was also Delhi's consultant coach for the 2018-19 seasons.
Klusener, 51, is expected to arrive in Agartala on Saturday and will formally sign the contract with the TCA. His initial contract is for 100 days, during which both men and women cricketers from Tripura are expected to benefit from his vast international cricket experience.
It's worth noting that Wriddhiman Saha, an India international cricketer who captained Tripura last season, has renewed his contract for another season. Klusener is expected to meet Saha during his time with the TCA.
The TCA had released an advertisement for a coaching role in March, and high-profile applicants such as Dav Whatmore, a former Australian cricketer and Sri Lankan coach, and Lance Klusener responded to the advertisement. (With inputs from Agencies). FD PD
