Kumarghat, July 28 (FD) SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das on Tuesday chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the BPRC Hall of Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti to assess the progress of various ongoing development projects across Kumarghat Block. The meeting brought together public representatives, panchayat functionaries and officials from different departments to evaluate the implementation of key government schemes and strengthen rural development initiatives.
The review meeting was attended by Unakoti Zila Parishad Sabhadhipati Amalendu Das, Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Sumati Das, Vice Chairman Shankar Deb, Kumarghat BAC Chairman Tapanjoy Reang, Chairman of Kumarghat Primary Marketing Co-operative Society Limited Shibendu Ghosh, members of the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti, Gram Pradhans, executive engineers of the Rural Development Department, Block Development Officer (BDO) Sushanta Datta, panchayat secretaries and other senior officials.
At the outset, the BDO presented a detailed report on the progress of various development programmes. He informed that since the launch of the VB-G RAM G scheme on July 1, Kumarghat Block has generated 1,04,253 mandays. He also highlighted the status of several completed and ongoing projects, including box culverts, steel footbridges, brick-soling roads, RCC drains and Anganwadi Centre buildings.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of major government initiatives such as PMAY (Rural), PM Jan Man, Swachh Bharat Mission, waste management projects, works under the Fifteenth Finance Commission and MP Adarsha Gram. Officials reported that under PMAY (Rural), Kumarghat Block achieved 99.34 per cent completion between the 2016-17 and 2023-24 financial years, with 13,792 houses completed against a target of 13,883. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, toilets have been constructed for 17,143 families.
The Rural Development Department also informed the meeting that nearly 80 per cent of construction projects undertaken since the 2023-24 financial year have been completed across various panchayats.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Sudhangshu Das said public representatives and government officials must remain accountable to the people. He stressed that the state government is committed to ensuring that the benefits of welfare schemes reach the last person in society within the stipulated timeframe.
Referring to the VB-G RAM G scheme, the Minister said it provides for 125 days of employment annually at a wage of ₹300 per manday. He urged panchayat representatives, secretaries, GRS personnel and block officials to work in close coordination and prepare Panchayat Action Plans to maximise employment generation and ensure eligible beneficiaries receive the full benefits.
The Minister further stated that merely setting targets would not guarantee success unless development plans are effectively implemented at the grassroots level. He called upon all stakeholders to work collectively so that Kumarghat Block continues to emerge as a model in rural development and public service delivery.
Chairperson Sumati Das also addressed the meeting, expressing confidence that Kumarghat Block would continue its record of achievements and earn further recognition at both the state and national levels through coordinated efforts and effective implementation of development programmes. FD SB
