India enjoyed a mixed day at the Korea Masters Badminton tournament in Asan, with seven women’s singles players advancing to the second round, while all six Indian men’s singles shuttlers crashed out in the opening round.
In the women’s singles, Anmol Kharb, Mansi Singh, Rakshitha Ramraj, Ashmita Chaliha, Isharani Baruah, Tanvi Sharma and Shriyanshi Valishetty progressed to the second round with impressive victories.
Anmol Kharb defeated Hong Kong China’s Lo Sin Yan 16-21, 21-17, 21-12, while Mansi Singh came from behind to beat Korea’s Kim Joo Eun 14-21, 21-19, 21-9. Rakshitha Ramraj overcame Korea’s A Yeon Yoo 22-24, 21-12, 21-13 and Ashmita Chaliha defeated Japan’s Ririna Hiramoto 22-20, 21-18.
Isharani Baruah beat Korea’s Lee So Hee 18-21, 21-15, 21-7, while Tanvi Sharma defeated China’s An Qi Yuan 21-16, 21-15. Shriyanshi Valishetty also advanced after defeating Chinese Taipei’s Yu Po Pai 21-15, 21-14. However, Aakarshi Kashyap bowed out after losing to Korea’s Min Ji Kim in the round of 32.
In the women’s doubles, Sonali Singh and Ritika Thaker entered the second round with a win over Korea’s Ji Sun Bang and Hyun Ji Jang.
In the mixed doubles, sixth seeds Shruti Mishra and Ishaan Bhatnagar defeated fellow Indians Sathwik Reddy Kanapuram and Radhika Sharma to move into the next round.
In the men’s singles, former world number one Kidambi Srikanth, Mithun Manjunath, Kiran George, Rounak Chouhan, Saneeth Dayanand and Tharun Mannepalli all suffered first-round defeats.
In the men’s doubles, the unseeded Indian pair of Krishna Prasad Garaga and Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy caused an upset by defeating sixth seeds Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn and Worrapol Thongsa-Nga of Thailand 21-16, 21-18 to reach the second round.
