Agartala, Apr 2 (FD) A joint team of GRP, BSF, and Tripura police on Tuesday arrested a woman engaged in cross-border trafficking of Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingya from Matinagar, a village near the Indo-Bangla international border in Sepahijala district, official sources said.
The Railway Police officer in charge of Agartala railway station, Tapas Das, said the police had arrested 30 Bangladeshi nationals from the rail station on March 30 and, following interrogation, received input that a woman from Matinagar village was the kingpin of trafficking women and Rohingya refugees.
However, the woman was absconding but returned home yesterday.
“After we received the information of her returning home, a joint team of GRP, BSF, and Tripura police was formed, which laid an ambush near her house and arrested her this morning. She was running a racket of human trafficking and helping Rohingya refugees cross the border. She was the leader of border touts," the officer in charge said.
The officer said, “Interrogation of the women is on, and we are trying to get input about who else is involved in the racket. A case was registered against her.”.
He said seven Bangladeshi nationals were arrested on March 23 at the Agartala rail station who were on board to go to Chennai. FD JK
