Khowai dist police lauded for successful raid against ganja smuggling

Agartala, Nov 3 (FD) Khowai district police today earned laurel today from Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, also the home minister of the state for their successful raid to recover ganja from the smugglers.
In two successful raids police have seized 3290 kg ganja from two vehicles worth Rs three core during special drives against narcotics in Khowai district.
Acting on a tip-off, a contingent of police led by Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Teliamura, Parsun Kanti Tripura on Wednesday stopped a Assam bound big lorry at Hawaibari under Teliamura police station and recovered 1190 kg ganja contained in 119 packets in the vehicle. The market value of the contraband item is more than Rs one crore, police said.
Police arrested the driver- Sher Singh, a resident of Ludhiana in Punjab and seized the vehicle. The police registered a case under NDPS Act in this connection.
In a separate incident on Wednesday night the police, during checking of vehicles, recovered 2100 kg ganja worth Rs. 2 crore from an oil tanker near the police station.
Police arrested the driver of the vehicle and his assistant in this connection.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha lauded police for their achievement. In a Facebook post on Thursday he said, “Another successful drive towards building Neshamukt Tripura. Khowai district police seized more than 3200 kg ganja from two vehicles during special drives in Teliamura.
