Agartala, May 31 (FD) Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday undertook a comprehensive review of major urban development and power sector projects in Tripura during his first visit to the state after assuming charge of the two key ministries.
The visit is being viewed as significant for Tripura's development agenda, with a focus on accelerating centrally sponsored schemes, improving urban infrastructure and strengthening power services across the state.
Soon after arriving in Agartala, Khattar attended a special programme at Muktadhara Auditorium where he joined Chief Minister Manik Saha and other dignitaries in listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio address, Mann Ki Baat.
The presence of a large number of beneficiaries highlighted the success of efforts aimed at promoting financial inclusion and providing livelihood support to street vendors and small entrepreneurs.
Later, the Union Minister held a high-level review meeting with Chief Minister Saha, senior officials and stakeholders to assess the implementation of urban development initiatives in the state. The meeting focused on the progress of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), with discussions centring on scientific waste management, sanitation infrastructure and measures to make urban centres cleaner and plastic-free.
Officials also reviewed ongoing civic infrastructure projects and examined the utilisation of central f
unds for urban development programmes. The Minister stressed the need for timely execution of projects and effective delivery of public services.
Khattar subsequently chaired a separate review meeting on the power sector, attended by senior officials, engineers and representatives of power utilities. The discussions focused on strengthening transmission and distribution networks, ensuring reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply, reducing transmission losses and modernising power infrastructure.
The Union Minister reviewed the status of centrally funded power projects and outlined priorities for improving service delivery in both urban and rural areas.
Officials said the visit would help address implementation bottlenecks and enhance Centre-State coordination. With Tripura experiencing rapid urban growth and rising demand for quality civic amenities and reliable electricity, the outcomes of the Minister’s review meetings are expected to provide fresh momentum to the state's development initiatives.
