By Firstdespatch Desk Jul 06, 2023
Agartala, July 06 (FD) The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Subhasis Talapatra as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
Justice Talapatra, currently serving as a judge in the Orissa High Court, is the senior-most judge from the Tripura High Court. The recommendation comes following the upcoming retirement of Chief Justice S. Muralidhar in August 2023.
Justice Talapatra was elevated as a judge of the Guwahati High Court in November 2011 and later opted to serve in the High Court of Tripura when it was established as a separate entity in 2013. He has been serving in the High Court of Orissa since June 2022.
The Collegium considered various factors, including the absence of representation from the High Court of Tripura among Chief Justices of High Courts since its inception in 2013.
Based on consultations with the consulted-judges and their concurrence, the Collegium concluded that Justice Subhasis Talapatra is suitable for the role of Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
Pending the retirement of Chief Justice S. Muralidhar, the Collegium recommends the appointment of Justice Subhasis Talapatra as the new Chief Justice of the High Court of Orissa. FD SB JK
