Agartala, April 30 (FD) Justice Arindam Lodh, retired Judge of the Tripura High Court, has officially been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC). The appointment was formally announced by Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Monday, through an official notification issued from the Raj Bhawan.
“In exercise of the powers conferred under Sub-section (1) of Section 22 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, I, Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Governor of Tripura, hereby appoint Hon’ble Mr. Justice Arindam Lodh as the Chairperson of the Tripura Human Rights Commission for a period of three years or until he reaches the age of 70, whichever comes earlier,” read the official order.
Justice Lodh, who retired from judicial service on March 25 this year, was widely expected to be appointed to a key commission role post-retirement. His appointment fills a vacancy that existed for months after the retirement of Justice (Retd.) Swapan Chandra Das, who previously chaired both the THRC and the Tripura Police Accountability Commission. While the leadership of the Police Accountability Commission remains vacant, Justice Lodh’s appointment brings renewed focus on human rights governance in the state.
Legal experts and observers have expressed optimism that Justice Lodh will carry forward the legacy of his predecessor and continue to uphold justice and human rights with integrity and fairness. FD SB
