IPFT MLA Dhananjoy Tripura resigns, likely to join TIPRA

Agartala, Oct 14 (FD) Months ahead of the sixty member assembly in Tripura a legislator of Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), an ally of ruling BJP, Dhananjoy Tripura resigned today from the assembly, citing 'personal reasons'.
Speaker of the assembly Ratan Chakraborty said Tripura had submitted his resignation citing "personal reasons". He was accompanied by Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma during submission of the resignation letter
“Since he (Tripura) quit as per the law and procedure, I accepted his resignation letter”, Chakraborty told reporters.
Tripura, who won from Raima Valley constituency in Dhalai district is likely to join Tipra Motha.
After the resignation of the legislator the strength of the ruling BJP still has absolute majority in the Assembly with 35 MLAs from BJP and six from the IPFT.
IPFT's strength has been reduced from eight to six after Tripura's resignation.
Earlier, another lawmaker of the party, Brishaketu Debbarma was declared disqualified by the speaker, who later joined Tipra Motha.
Earlier, a BJP lawmaker, Burbu Mohan Tripura joined Tipra Motha.
The ruling BJP has 35 legislators, the opposition CPI-M has 15 MLA and the BJP ally IPFT has six MLAs.
