Initiative is to complete the ambitious Sekerkote Depot to end fuel crisis in Tripura

Agartala, Nov 29 (FD) Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Sushanta Chowdhury today said that initiatives were taken for expeditious completion of the Sekerkote Depot project in West Tripura district for maintain a buffer stock that would be sufficient for at least 30 days.
He told reporters following a meeting with the IOCL officials in presence of the state government officials held at the conference hall of Khadya-o-Bhokta Bhavan.
“Once Sekerkote Depot is operational, the state aims to mitigate the impact of logistical challenges during adverse weather conditions and a buffer stock of thirty days can be made “, minister told reporters.
He stated that in the year 2022, IOCL initiated a project with a budget exceeding Rs 500 crore to establish a depot with a substantial capacity of 21,000 kiloliters at Sekerkote. However, after 30% completion of the project it was stopped for some time, but new initiative was taken to complete the project.
Chowdhury said the IOCL authorities were exploring the possibility of exporting oil to Bangladesh in the future.
Among others IOCL Chief General Manager (Operations) Nitin Bhatnagar, Deputy Manager (Operations) Deepak Kumar Pathak, Public Works Department Chief Architect Rajeev Debbarma, and Director of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Nirmal Adhikari were present in the meeting with the minister.
