Agartala, May10 (FD) Rupnarayan Sunker, a member of the Indian Railway Board, recently visited Agartala to oversee the progress of the Agartala-Nischintapur rail line. The rail line, which will connect the Indian Railway with Bangladesh at Akhaura, is an important project that will facilitate trade and commerce between the two neighboring countries.
The proposed Indo-Bangla Rail Line, with a length of 12.23 km, will have 5.46 km on the Indian side. During his visit, Sunker revealed that the progress on the Indian side is satisfactory and has already been completed at 89 percent, while the progress on the Bangladeshi side is only 75 percent.
Apart from inspecting the rail line, Sunker also visited the Agartala Railway Station to inquire about its problems and prospects for further development. He also inspected the work on an escalator that is being installed at the station. The installation of the escalator will make it easier for passengers to access the different platforms at the station.
The Agartala-Nischintapur rail line will facilitate better connectivity between India and Bangladesh and is expected to promote trade and tourism between the two countries. The project has been long-awaited and is finally nearing completion, with the Indian side already nearing the finish line. Once completed, it is expected to benefit both nations and enhance their diplomatic ties. FD JK
