India Raises Concern Over Attacks on Minorities in Bangladesh

The government today said that it has taken serious note of several reports of incidents of violence against Hindus and other minorities regarding attacks on their homes and business establishments, temples, and religious places across Bangladesh.
In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh informed that the government has taken a serious note of these incidents and shared its concerns with the government of Bangladesh.
Mr. Singh said so far, the Government of Bangladesh has reportedly arrested 70 people and 88 cases have been registered in connection with violence involving minorities.
He said the primary responsibility for the protection of life and liberty of all citizens of Bangladesh, including minorities, rests with the Government of Bangladesh. The Union Minister added that India’s expectation is that the Government of Bangladesh will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and welfare of Hindus and other minorities. Mr. Singh said the issue was also reiterated during the visit of the foreign secretary to Bangladesh on 9th December this year.
