India observing 20th anniversary of Tsunami which hit South Indian coast on this day in 2004

The 20th anniversary of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami has been marked today with poignant tributes pouring in from various quarters of the State. Tamil Nadu bore the brunt of maximum destruction among all the Coastal States.
Tamil Nadu Governor Shri R.N.Ravi led the State in mourning the loss of lives during the Tsunami that struck on 26th December 2004. He visited the Marina Beach Tsunami rehabilitation settlements and joined the relatives who offered tributes to their dear ones. People across the coastal districts of Cuddalore, Villupuram, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Kannyakumari, Tuticorin also honoured the memory of those who lost their relatives and reflect on the resilience and recovery of the survivors. The devastation unleashed by the fury of massive Tsunami waves was unprecedented and Tamil Nadu was the worst affected state, with the loss of 8000 lives and destruction of about over 120000 houses.
