Agartala, Dec 16 (FD) The 53rd anniversary of the 1971 liberation war, the day neighboring Bangladesh was liberated in a joint fight against the Pakistani army was celebrated here on Monday in different events.
Governor of Tripura, Indrasena Reddy Nallu paid tribute by laying a wreath at the War Memorial at Albert Ekka Park this morning.
Later, the Governor told reporters that this event has been organized in memory of the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
“This war victory is a historical chapter of our country. The Indian Army won the independence struggle of Bangladesh with the freedom fighters of Bangladesh on this day”, he added.
Meanwhile, the BSF and Bangladesh’s Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) as part of celebration of the event at the Agartala-Akhaura Check post here had exchanged sweets and greeted the soldiers of Liberation war (Mukti joddha) and Indian army who martyred their lives in the war.
Senior army officers led by Major General Sumit Rana, Chief of Staff of the Indian Army’s 101 Area, and Major General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Tariq, GOC of the Bangladesh Army’s 33 Infantry Division, exchanged greetings and sweets as a part of the celebration.
The event also highlighted the significant role played by Tripura and Agartala in the 1971 Liberation War. “The bond between our armed forces and our people is built on the spirit of justice, freedom, and equality,” said Major General Rana. Major General Tariq echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the deep friendship between the two nations.
Victory Day was celebrated with due respect and dignity at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission office in Agartala.
The First Secretary of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, Md. Al Amin hoisted the flag of Bangladesh and paid tribute to the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s independence.
Later, a discussion was held in the Asst. High Commission, which was attended by the eminent people of the city. FD JK
