Agartala, June 3 (FD) The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre, Agartala, has forecast a spell of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and prevailing hot and humid conditions across Tripura over the next seven days, prompting an advisory for residents to remain cautious, particularly during afternoon and evening hours.
According to the Mid-Day Weather Bulletin issued at 11:30 am on Wednesday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at one or two places across the state on June 3 and June 4. Simultaneously, hot and humid weather conditions are expected to persist in West Tripura, Khowai, Sepahijala, Gomati and South Tripura districts.
The weather office has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated locations across the state during this period, increasing the likelihood of localized weather disturbances.
Rainfall activity is expected to intensify from June 5 onward. The IMD has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at a few places on June 5, followed by more widespread rainfall at many places across Tripura between June 6 and June 10. Thunderstorm and lightning activity are also likely to continue at isolated locations, particularly between June 5 and June 8.
Meteorologists have indicated that maximum temperatures across the state are likely to remain above normal by 3°C to 5°C during the next two to three days, while minimum temperatures are expected to stay close to seasonal averages.
The combination of higher-than-normal temperatures and elevated humidity levels is likely to increase discomfort among residents and may pose health risks, especially for children, senior citizens and individuals suffering from pre-existing health conditions.
The IMD has advised people to take necessary precautions against heat stress and remain alert during thunderstorm activity, particularly in vulnerable and open areas. FD JK
