Agartala, April 29 (FD) Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) in collaboration with Madhupur Police Station and Kamalasagar BSF unit arrested a human trafficker from Miapara village, located outside the Kamalasagar border fencing. The arrested trafficker, identified as Simon Mia (25), hails from Madhupur, Sipahijala district, Tripura.
Acting on a tip-off, the joint team apprehended Simon Mia, who had been evading arrest for a long time. He is allegedly involved in multiple cases related to human trafficking, facilitating illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India for hefty payments. Currently, Simon is under intensive interrogation at Agartala GRP police station. Authorities anticipate that more arrests will follow based on the ongoing investigation. He will be produced before the honorable court tomorrow, seeking appropriate police remand.
In a separate operation, during a security check before the departure of Rani Kamalabati Express, the Agartala GRP recovered 17.5 kg of dry ganja kept unclaimed in five bags. The market value of the seized contraband is approximately ₹2.62 lakh. The ganja was seized following all legal procedures, and further investigation is underway to trace the owners.
Despite strict security measures, infiltration and illegal activities continue across Tripura’s 856 km border with Bangladesh. Authorities have arrested several traffickers in the past week, highlighting growing concerns over cross-border crimes. FD SB JK
