Agartala, July 24 (FD) Tripura Human Rights Commission has served notices to DGP, Amitabha Ranjan and District Magistrate of Dhalai, Saju Vaheed over the recent violence at Gandatwisa and asked to submit a report within 3 weeks.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the violence, a three member panel of the commission headed by its chairperson S C Das said they were shocked to see reports in the news media about the large-scale violence, arson, looting etc, at Gandatwisa and no registration of police.
The notice was served on July 15, alleging inaction of the police authorities in arresting the culprits.
“….the Commission likes to ask for a report from the DGP, Tripura, as to what action has been taken by the law enforcing agency to nab the offenders of such ghastly offences and whether any criminal case has been registered, and if so, under what penal sections and whether any miscreant has been arrested in connection with the alleged offence”, reads a notice served by the THRC.
“The District Magistrate, Dhalai District is directed to inquire into the incident through the civil agency and to submit a report as to what sorts of action has been taken to rehabilitate the victims and to settle them in the same position before the alleged incident. How many families were affected and how many houses were gutted and looted should be specified”, the notice further reads.
At least 40 houses were gutted, 30 shops and a few vehicles were damaged since July 12. Tension gripped the area the death of tribal youth Parameshwar Reang, who was earlier, injured in a clash with local youths on July 7 and later succumbed to injuries in hospital on July 12 last.
“Inaction or negligence on the part of public servants in preventing the commission of violation of human rights is/are also actionable and, therefore, the notices are issued to submit the preliminary report within three weeks for further course of action,” the notice said. FD JK
