Agartala, May 7(FD) Allocation of sufficient funds to self-help groups during the first term of BJP-led Tripura government resulted in more votes from women in the last assembly election, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said on Sunday.
Addressing a programme organized by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Tripura Pradesh at Rabindra Bhavan here, Dr Saha said the party's Mohila Morcha did ‘wonders’ in the last elections in mobilising female voters.
"The BJP-IPFT government provided huge funds to women through self-help groups (SHGs). It resulted in 3 percentage points more female voters casting their votes for the BJP in comparison to male voters," he said.
He also praised the role of BJYM youths in bringing the ideology of BJP to the common man and strengthening the organization down to the booth level.
“Our youth continues to play a commendable role in bringing the ideology of Bharatiya Janata Party to the common man and strengthening the organization down to the booth level. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, youth workers have contributed the most in continuing BJP's winning streak in the past elections in this state,”
Highlighting the developmental initiatives of the state government, the Chief Minister said, “A new unit of rubber thread manufacturing has been set up at Bodhjungnagar Industrial Estate in West Tripura and the products will be exported to Bangladesh. The bamboo tiles produced in Tripura were used in the beautification of the Raj Bhavan in Bihar.
Dr Saha came down heavily at the opposition CPI(M) and said, “They did not join the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP-led government. The CPI(M) did not even attend the opening ceremony of the newly-built MLA hostel near Khejurbagan.” FD PD
