Agartala, May 25 (25) During the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the tenth campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Assam's Kamrup district, Home Minister Amit Shah made an appeal to the people of Manipur to maintain peace.
Saha promised that justice would be ensured for all sections of society and announced his intention to visit Manipur to help resolve disputes.
Shah said that there is a need for trust and dialogue among different groups in Manipur to restore peace in the state. He assured the people that the central government would deliver justice to those affected by the recent clashes. Shah highlighted the importance of dialogue in restoring peace, stating that peaceful resolutions can only be achieved through discussions.
In addition to addressing the situation in Manipur, Shah discussed the establishment of the NFSU campus in Assam. He emphasised that the new campus would create 100% employment opportunities for students pursuing courses at the institute.
Shah also mentioned the government's plans to introduce changes in the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), and Evidence Act to increase the conviction rate and enhance the delivery of criminal justice.
Shah underscored the significance of scientific methods such as psychology, fingerprinting, and DNA profiling in crime investigation instead of resorting to third-degree measures. He emphasised the need to strengthen the forensic infrastructure, upgrade laboratories, and establish regional and mobile forensic laboratories to improve the conviction rate.
The NFSU campus, for which 50 acres of land have been allotted by the Assam government, is expected to produce thousands of graduates and postgraduates in various branches of forensic science. It will also provide training to police, the judiciary, and forensic scientists from neighbouring countries. The first phase of the campus is scheduled for completion by 2026.
Shah expressed gratitude to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his prompt allocation of land for the state-of-the-art institute. Classes are set to begin this year at the temporary campus located within the premises of the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
The developments in Manipur and the establishment of the NFSU campus represent important initiatives aimed at promoting peace, justice, and scientific advancements in the region. FD SB
