By Firstdespatch Desk Apr 23, 2026
Agartala, Apr 23 (FD) The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Meteorological Centre here has issued an advisory warning of hot and humid conditions across Tripura over the next three days, attributing the situation to intense solar heating.
According to officials, maximum temperatures in several districts are likely to reach 36°C or above, about 2 to 4 degrees higher than the seasonal average. In the past 24 hours, the state recorded a maximum temperature of 36.6°C — the highest so far this April — which is 3.3°C above normal.
The prevailing weather conditions are being further aggravated by high humidity levels, increasing discomfort and the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Authorities have advised residents to avoid outdoor activities during peak hours between 10 am and 3 pm, remain well-hydrated, and wear light, breathable clothing. Consumption of traditional cooling drinks such as lassi and lemon water has been encouraged, while health officials cautioned against excessive intake of alcohol, tea, coffee and soft drinks.
The advisory also extends to the agriculture sector, with farmers urged to ensure regular irrigation of summer crops like maize and pulses. Livestock owners have been advised to provide adequate shelter, ventilation, and sufficient water for animals, particularly during the hottest parts of the day.
Officials have called for continued vigilance as rising temperatures and humidity are expected to affect normal life across the state. FD JK
