Hapania Market Fire: Mayor pledges quick relief and redevelopment

Agartala, May 3 (FD) A devastating fire broke out at Hapania Bazaar at around 10:30 AM today, reducing five shops to ashes and partially damaging a couple of others. The fire, suspected to have originated from a hotel within the market area, quickly spread to nearby fast food stalls, fruit vendors, and retail outlets.
Upon receiving the alert, two fire engines from the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the scene. With the combined efforts of local residents and the fire brigade, the blaze was brought under control, preventing a larger disaster.
Senior officials, including Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumdar, local MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, and corporators Abhijit Mallick and Bapi Das, visited the site shortly after the incident. Mayor Majumdar assured the affected shopkeepers that the government would provide immediate assistance and relief.
Speaking to the media, the mayor expressed deep concern and sympathy for the victims. He announced that the AMC would not only support the affected vendors financially but also take steps to modernize Hapania Bazaar. Plans are underway to redevelop the market area into a better-equipped facility with enhanced fire safety measures and modern infrastructure.
Preliminary estimates suggest that the total loss from the fire is around Rs. 5 to 6 lakh. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire. Meanwhile, temporary aid and rehabilitation efforts for the affected traders are already being initiated by the AMC. FD SB
