Govt Confirms Illegal Occupation of Official Houses in J&K

The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that several influential individuals, including politicians, journalists, and government employees, are unlawfully occupying government accommodations in Srinagar and Jammu.
In response to a query raised by MLA Abdul Majid Larmi, the Government stated that a number of government quarters are under unauthorised occupation. The MLA had sought details regarding alleged overstaying and illegal possession of official estates by prominent persons.
While the Government did not disclose the names of the individuals involved, it confirmed that action has been initiated to reclaim these properties. According to the statement, the Estates Department has been directed to begin eviction proceedings against the illegal occupants. These actions will be taken under the Jammu and Kashmir Estates Department (Allotment of Government Accommodation) Regulations, 2004.
The issue has raised concerns over the misuse of public resources and the failure of responsible individuals to vacate properties after their entitlement ended. The Government has assured the Assembly that steps are being taken to ensure transparency and accountability in the allotment and occupation of official residences.
Eviction notices are expected to be issued soon, and the Government emphasized that no one, regardless of their status or position, will be spared if found guilty of violating the rules.
