Governor urges unity through Buddha teachings at Agartala celebration

Agartala, May 01 (FD) A message of peace and compassion resonated strongly as the 2570th Buddha Purnima was celebrated with devotion and reflection at Benuban Vihara in Agartala on Friday. The event brought together spiritual leaders, dignitaries, and members of the Buddhist community to honor the timeless teachings of Gautama Buddha amid a world facing growing unrest and intolerance.
Inaugurating the programme, Indrasena Reddy Nallu emphasized that the teachings of Buddha continue to guide humanity toward hope, peace, and moral clarity. He stated that in an era marked by conflict and division, Buddha’s message remains a powerful force for unity and harmony. According to him, festivals like Buddha Purnima reinforce a collective commitment to building a just and inclusive society.
Highlighting the essence of Buddha’s philosophy, the Governor urged people to replace hatred with love, cruelty with compassion, and violence with peace. He stressed that true victory over hatred can only be achieved through kindness and understanding, echoing the core values of non-violence and tolerance.
The Governor also praised the Buddhist community in Tripura for their contributions to maintaining social harmony and cultural unity. He called upon citizens to practice non-violence in thought, speech, and action, and to cultivate compassion toward all living beings.
Among other speakers, Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma encouraged individuals to incorporate Buddha’s teachings into their daily lives. Religious leaders including Rev. Chandrabansha Mahathero and Dr. Kshemachara Bhikkhu also shared insights on the significance of the occasion.
The event featured felicitation of Buddhist followers and prize distribution for children who participated in a drawing competition, reflecting the spirit of unity and cultural celebration. FD SB
